HISTORY

SINCE 1969, the Viotti family has been cultivating a passion for vines and wine in Castel Rocchero, a small medieval village located between the gentle hills of the Alta Langa Astigiana and Alto Monferrato. An area suited to the monoculture of the vine, guardian of traditions and a rich food and wine culture. With passion and dedication Bianca Viotti and her father Guido carry on the family tradition. From the first bottle of wine in 1969 to today, a story to be told.

THE PRESENT

In 2000, Viotti Vini began to be one of the first companies to produce and bottle Albarossa. A unique name and a unique story. It all began in 1939 thanks to Prof. Giovanni Dalmasso, one of the most important ampelographers that Italy has ever had. In fact, he made a series of varietal crossings which were archived in a wine collection of the Piedmont region and which were never planted.

Fifty years after Prof. Mannini of the CNR of Turin,

he decided to study these crossings closely, planting them in the Cannona Estate, an experimental wine-growing center in the Piedmont region. Among these Albarossa was rediscovered, a real native black grape variety obtained from the crossing of "mama" Barbera and "papa" Nebbiolo (Nebbiolo di Dronero, historically grown on the slopes at the foot of the Maritime Alps). Our company found the maximum expression of the Piedmontese territory in this vine and thus decided to start investing in this wine, thanks also to the vocation of our lands and their position ... From here were born the Albarossa, the Munferié and the Lù, Method Albarossa classic.

PHILOSOPHY

Our company has always selected the grapes with care and with the utmost respect for the environment by practicing "integrated pest management" (practice of crop protection). During our winemaking processes, we prefer steel wine vessels and later, for some of our wines, aging in wooden barrels. By choice, the marcs are not pressed.
